Community & Education
The
city of Zilwaukee is home of one of the best public schools
of the Saginaw School District. Built in 1954, Zilwaukee
school offers classes from Prekindergarten through 8th
grade. Students can attend for 10 years. During this period
they receive an excellent education as indicated by high
scores on the MEAP (Statewide testing).
The school is part of Saginaw
Public Schools District since 1966. Today, it counts
350 students (100 are in grades 6-8 "middle school"),
21 professional teaching staff members and 18 support
personnel, including aides, custodians, and a secretary.
The principal is Mrs. Tina Munoz and the P.T.C president
is Christine Hotle.
Academic Year 2003-2004
- The success of Zilwaukee School is directly related
to the dedicated parents, teachers and school staff
and the conscientious students. The very positive atmosphere
at the Zilwaukee School has been strengthened through
the involvement of parents and community support.
- Zilwaukee School continues its quest
for a school theme, which will involve "Bridging
Our Community to the World." A more specific,
focused description of the school's identity will
be forthcoming this school year.
- Science students participated in the Saginaw River
Testing Project.
- Drama Club produced two plays, "Tongue Twisted"
and "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown."
- Joseph Crummer and Michael Estrada represented Zilwaukee
School in the Junior Leadership Saginaw Program.
- Students in fourth and fifth grade went to the Hartley
Outdoor Education Center.
- Traditional holiday events such us the Halloween parade
and the Christmas music were great successes.
- Eight graders visited the Detroit Science Museum
- Combined bands from grade 5-8 played in the Zilwaukee
Sesquicentennial parade.
- The Parent-Teacher Council made possible many events
such as dances, popcorn, sports, fun fest...
- The middle school International Fair was a real success.
It was attended by many parents, community members,
and the board of education.
